April 29, 2019—General Motors is adding 400 jobs at its plant in Bowling Green, Ky., for production of its new mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette, reported The Detroit Free Press.

The addition of the second shift will boost the plant’s workforce to at least 1,300 people, GM said. Some sources say GM also will shift production of the new engine for the mid-engine Corvette to the plant, though the automaker would not confirm that.

Since 2011, GM said it has invested about $900 million in Bowling Green toward a new body shop, increased engine capacity, new paint shop, a new Performance Build Center, and other plant upgrades.

The plant has built more than 1 million Corvettes since it opened in 1981.
