Pirelli’s Scorpion ATR tire has been rated No. 1 in the On/Off Road Terrain survey by Tire Rack while also being honored as the highest performer among all-terrain tires by Consumer Reports magazine in its November issue.

“The ratings were primarily based on the Scorpion ATR’s impressive handling dynamics in wet and dry conditions, cornering stability, noise and comfort, snow traction and its resistance to hydroplaning,” says Pirelli spokesman Joe Severns.

Getting accolades from the Consumer Reports “Top 100 Products” edition is especially gratifying, he notes.

“We’re happy that it’s been tested well – we had some pretty hefty competition,” says Severns. “It’s a fantastic sign that we’re doing things well over here.”

Tire Rack’s nod is equally pleasing, he points out. As one of the largest tire dealers in the United States, customers of the online retailer are asked to contribute their opinions to a tire survey covering 12 separate areas, including hydroplaning resistance, wet traction, cornering stability, dry traction, noise/comfort, steering response and other parameters such as light or heavy snow traction, ice traction and whether or not the customer would consider purchasing the tires again if given the opportunity. The survey data is tabulated from the responses of customers and website visitors, with performance traits rated on a scale from zero to 10, with 10 considered a superior grade.

“Pirelli’s Scorpion ATR features a very aggressive symmetrical all-terrain tread design that optimizes comfort and treadwear while keeping its all-terrain traction characteristics,” according to Severns. The ATR’s special tread compound provides enhanced noise reduction, wear uniformity and aquaplaning resistance, he adds. The tire is available in 15- to 24-inch fitments, either as original equipment or a replacement tire.
