Notice of Modified Text of Proposed Regulations - Airbag Safety 

The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) has proposed modifications to the regulatory proposal related to air bag safety. The regulatory proposal was originally noticed on July 10, 2026.

• Affected section: Amend Section 3367 of Title 16, California Code of Regulations

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Showcases Impact of Donation to United Volunteer Fire Department 

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation recently awarded the United Volunteer Fire Department with extrication equipment valued at nearly $40,000 to help protect East Tennessee drivers. On Wednesday, Sept. 2, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation showcased that technology at the Morristown Fire Department, with support from the National Auto Body Council First Responder Emergency Extrication (F.R.E.E.) program, Allstate, and Hurst Jaws of Life. The hands-on learning experience taught them how to rescue accident victims from late-model vehicles. In addition to the extrication demonstration, attendees received a fire station tour, explored a fire truck and had dinner provided by Firehouse Subs. In partnership with the University of Tennessee, Smokey, the beloved Bluetick Coonhound mascot, brushed up on his lifesaving skills as well.

Kia Telluride and Tesla Model Y Earn Top Safety pick+ Awards 

Two vehicles, the 2027 Kia Telluride and 2026-27 Tesla Model Y, earn Top Safety Pick+ awards in the latest round of ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. 

New ratings for five other models that do not qualify for either award are also available.

The Telluride was redesigned for the 2027 model year. Only vehicles built after June 2026 qualify for an award. These models come with good-rated headlights, while those built earlier were equipped with marginal ones. 

The newly rated Model Y, which was redesigned for model year 2026, makes the cut thanks to good ratings across the board. 

Models that didn't qualify include the 2026 BMW 3 Series, 2026 BMW i4, 2026 GMC Canyon crew cab, 2026 Lexus IS, and 2026 Toyota Crown Signia. Read a breakdown of the test ratings for each model here.
