More than 70,000 people have cast their online ballots for the Miss Mint 2009 contest, and the winner will be crowned from among three finalists.
The awarding of the tiara takes place at the Golden Nugget Hotel in Las Vegas to signal the start of festivities relating to this weekend’s running of off-road racing’s General Tire Mint 400.
General’s marketing director, Travis Roffler, reports that “we’re bringing back the famous Miss Mint 400 to kick off the race in style.”
It signifies a harkening back to the historic race’s heyday when the event was famous for celebrity drivers and the Mint 400 Girls. Over the years the title was claimed by a number of high-profile models, including Linda Carter of television’s “Wonder Woman” and “Wheel of Fortune” letter-turner Vanna White.
This year’s finalists for the crowning achievement are Leah Light of Oceano, Calif. and two Arizona residents; Nikki Jansen from Glendale and Christina Roelant of Phoenix.
Miss Mint 400 will appear at Friday’s Fan Fair & Tech Day and will help start the race on Saturday. In addition to being the centerpiece of all the Mint 400 activities, the winner will receive $1,500 and a personal photo shoot.
“It’s just one way we can make this event even more exciting,” says Roffler, “and to give the new General Tire Mint 400 a solid place in the racing circuit.”
