General Motors has selected Goodyear’s newest fuel-efficient tire, the Assurance Fuel Max, as an original equipment fitment for the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco.
Affixed to 17-inch wheels, it features a fuel-saving tread compound that helps reduce energy loss as the tire rolls. In addition, Wet and Dry Tread Zones enhance all season traction, according to the company.
Goodyear executives explain that the Wet Tread Zone has dual Aquachannel grooves to evacuate water away from the treadface when driving on wet roads. “The Dry Tread Zone helps enhance handling and grip for confident maneuvering on dry pavement,” they point out.
Able to achieve an estimated 40 highway miles per gallon when combined with a six-speed manual transmission, the car is expected to hit auto dealer showrooms by the end of this year.
Available as a replacement tire for numerous vehicles, the Assurance Fuel Max is also standard equipment on the 2010 Toyota Prius, the 2010 Ford Fusion S and the 2011 Chevrolet Volt.
