Continental Tire-clad cars took three podium finishes in the Oct. 3-5 GT Live East Redline Time Attack at Virginia International Raceway in Charlotte.
Douglas Wind took first place in the Street FWD division, Steven Rankings took second in the same class and Don Hill took third place in the Modified FWD class. All raced on ContiSportContact 3 ultra-high performance tires.
“We are so happy with the results from this event,” says Andreas Gerstenberger, Continental’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. “What’s even more impressive is the fact that Don Hill took third place running our street tires against the competition running R-compound tires. This is very impressive, and it proves our ContiSportContact 3 is a premiere street tire that is far ahead of the competition.”
The tire, specially developed for sporty performance vehicles, is geared to provide shorter braking distances, enhanced handling characteristics and improved grip on wet roads, according to Gerstenberger. Its asymmetrical tread pattern ribs offer the best transfer of forces to the road for exceptional handling. This translates into precise steering and powerful braking, he says.
A reinforced outer rib allows for lateral stiffness and added grip, even at high speeds, notes Gerstenberger. Continuous circumferential grooves actively move water out from under the tire’s contact patch for improved safety against hydroplaning, and a state-of-the-art silica tread compound allows for significant improvement in wet handling, dry traction and even treadwear.
