MANKATO, Minn. – In keeping with its mission to support and encourage women who are entering the industry, particularly those in the technical ranks, the Women’s Industry Network (WIN) honored Rachel Fonseca of New Bedford, Mass., with the organization’s second annual International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE) educational scholarship.

Fonseca finished in second place in the secondary collision competition at the SkillsUSA National Championship, making her the highest-finishing female ever in this national competition. The WIN scholarship included airfare, lodging and food to the NACE with a full access pass provided by the Automotive Management Institute (AMI). Fonseca also received a 2009 membership to WIN.

“Being able to provide this type of scholarship is a fundamental part of WIN’s mission,” says Geralynn Kottschade, owner of Jerry’s Body Shop, Mankato, MN, who serves as WIN’s Chair. “In addition to the educational and development opportunity, WIN connected Rachel with a female mentor who is helping introduce her to other women in the industry and offering her an ongoing support system. Mentoring is another key element of WIN’s mission to drive the future of women in collision repair.”

Fonseca’s accomplishment and receipt of this scholarship was acknowledged during the NACE awards breakfast held on Friday, Nov.7th.

WIN is accepting corporate sponsors to assist the organization in realizing the group’s goals. For more information contact Marcy Tieger at [email protected] or Jeanne Silver at [email protected].
