BASF partners with Hyundai on new i-flow concept car

March 30, 2010

March 30, 2010—BASF Coatings has partnered with Hyundai on Hyundai’s i-flow concept car, which was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The i-flow is designed to allow for greater fuel efficiency, comfort, safety and lower environmental impact.

The i-flow concept car is equipped with lightweight construction materials, thermal engine insulation, emission-reducing technology, infrared-reflecting interior materials, a liquid metal finish and scratch resistant clearcoat using a waterborne paint system.

“The concept car is a technology carrier for state-of-the-art coatings such as the new highly scratch-resistant iGloss clearcoat, paints for transparent plastics, as well as liquid metal effect paints,” said Raimar Jahn, head of the BASF coatings division and the global automotive steering committee.

The clearcoat iGloss gives i-flow a resilient, protective layer against scratches and environmental impacts. BASF Coatings' 2K-clearcoat combines the advantages of organic and inorganic materials and over time offers substantially better protection from micro scratches, according to BASF.
