Sam Bell named Cengage Learning/ASE Automobile Technician of the Year

Delmar, part of Cengage Learning and a leading provider of learning solutions for ongoing career development and education, today announced that Sam Bell of Cleveland Heights, OH has been named the Cengage Learning/Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automobile Technician of the Year.

The award, sponsored by Delmar, recognizes the automotive technician earning the highest composite score on the ASE certification exams, the industry standard for automotive professionals. Bell's scores were the highest of more than 350,000 professionals. Bell was awarded a cash prize and an all-expenses-paid trip to the annual ASE Board of Director's Industry Awards Dinner, in Phoenix, AZ last month.

"The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence is renowned throughout the industry for its dedication to improving the quality of automotive service and repair," said Kristen Davis, director, professional transportation learning solutions, Delmar. "We share this commitment with ASE and are proud to support technicians, such as Sam Bell, as they demonstrate a passion for continued learning in their profession."

Bell has been working as an automotive technician for more than 30 years and is the owner and chief technician of the Lusty Wrench in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Highlights from Bell's career include serving as a mechanical consultant for a robotic vehicle development program, receiving five International Automotive Media Awards, including a Gold Medallion, from the International Society for Vehicle Preservation and receiving numerous other awards for his contributions to a variety of automotive publications. Bell was alson named as a 2010 Champion of Sustainability for his innovative development of what he calls "eco-conscious auto repair."

"Over the years, I have become deeply intertwined in our community though the daily operation of our small local business," said Bell. "Obtaining an ASE certification provides important external validation that new customers can trust. Regular recertification assures my customers, new and old, that my skill set and knowledge base are up-to-date with current industry practices."
