New Champion Double Platinum Power Plug Replaces High-Thread OE Design in Ford 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L engines

Untitled DocumentFederal-Mogul Corporation’s Champion® spark plug brand has introduced a one-piece premium replacement spark plug that will help automotive technicians and do-it-yourselfers eliminate a common tune-up challenge affecting more than four million passenger vehicles.

The new Champion Double Platinum Power spark plug (p/n 7989) utilizes a one-piece design that replaces the two-piece “high-thread” original equipment plug utilized in millions of Ford 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L engines.

When servicing these engines, technicians are challenged, as the OE plug can separate during removal, potentially leaving the base trapped within the engine block. The new one-piece design solves this problem, according to the company.

In addition to the problem-solving one-piece design, the new Champion Double Platinum Power plug features an extended ceramic post that virtually eliminates flashover, and an advanced J-gap configuration that is easier to set, and helps ensure more efficient firing performance.

Like all Champion plugs, the new Double Platinum Power spark plug also features the brand’s exclusive Heat-Active™ alloy, which enables the plug to more quickly reach and maintain the optimum temperature range, the company adds.

The new Champion Double Platinum Power spark plug is available immediately for the following applications:

Ford Explorer 2006-07 (4.6L V8)
Ford F-150 2004-07 (5.4L V8)
