INDUSTRY WEEKAmerica's Top Mechanics Compete at SEMA Three of the best mechanics in America will compete at the SEMA show in Las Vegas for the golden wrench and the title of Amoco Ultimate Golden Mechanic. The Amoco Ultimate Golden Mechanic Contest Finalist Event - a live competition hosted by Car and Driver's radio host, Alan Taylor - was launched in 2005 to find the best mechanic in the country. The competition will take place Thursday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. PST at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. The Golden Mechanic competition will be held outdoor at the Motor Trend Proving Ground, located between the Center and South halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Competitors will have the opportunity to showcase their auto repair knowledge and auto diagnostic skills in a series of fast-paced physical challenges. The finalists will also flex their brain power by answering tough questions from a panel of industry experts. The winner will be announced onsite, and the Golden Mechanic will receive $25,000 and a year's worth of Amoco Ultimate fuel at BP (valued at $1,200), as well as serving as an Amoco Ultimate national spokesperson in 2007. Through a national contest, BP and Amoco Ultimate chose three of the best mechanics in the country out of hundreds of entries to compete this November. Finalists will be rated by an expert panel of judges, including Lauren Fix, better known as "The Car Coach," and Denny Kahler, past chairman of the board for Automotive Service Association (ASA).
