Hood Hinge Rattle
Excessive clearance at the hood hinge attaching bolt can cause Chevrolet and GMC S/T pickup and utility models (model years 1995-2001) and Oldsmobile Bravadas (model years 1996-2001) to emit a rattle from either or both front corners of the instrument panel near the hood hinge, especially when road surface creates a side-to-side vehicle motion. The noise is produced when hood hinge makes metal-to-metal contact with the hood hinge bracket. To repair, place a spring washer on the bolt using the following directions:

Locate and remove the hood hinge-attaching bolt.

Install a spring washer, P/N 12383460, on the bolt.

Reinstall the bolt and tighten it to 25 Nm (18 ft. lb.).

Note: If necessary, refer to the Body Front End subsection of the Body and Accessories Section of the appropriate service manual.
