CIMS recently gave a presentation
emphasizing the importance of driving
safety and its relationship to tire
registration at a convention conducted
by the
National Automobile Dealers
Association (NADA).
Paul Taylor, NADA’s chief economist,
told attendees that more than 13.9
million new cars and light trucks will
be purchased or leased this
year.
“We viewed that statement as an
opportunity to inform not only those
auto dealers in attendance, and our own
industry’s tire dealers, but also
consumers about the importance of tire
registration as it specifically relates
to vehicle safety,” recounts CIMS
President Susan B. Kruder.
CIMS representatives told visitors to
the company’s exhibit that while tire
registration is a mandate of the
National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA), it is also
crucial for tire retailers to
underscore the reasonsoning behind the
process.
“We believe the auto and tire
industries certainly have a commitment
to safety, but we also believe that
it’s equally important to assure a
customer that his or her replacement
tires are registered and they can be
quickly notified in the event of a
safety recall,” says Kruder.
“It just makes good sense to reaffirm
one’s commitment to safety as often as
possible,” she points out. “It makes
the consumer more confident of the
product, more trusting of the seller
and, ultimately, more loyal to the
seller.”
