Falken has taken delivery of its
American Le Mans Series 2012 Porsche 911
GT3 RSR at Chicago’s O’Hare airport,
transporting the car south to the tire
maker’s Indianapolis racing shop.
The newest competition entry is wider in
appearance and is again powered by a
six-cylinder boxer 4-liter engine with a
six-speed gearbox and a paddle
shift.
Team Falken driver Bryan Sellers is
eager to get back on track and
acquainted with the new vehicle after
first seeing it in December at the
Porsche banquet in Weissach,
Germany.
“You can still tell it’s a real
Porsche,” says Sellers. “It’s impressive
to see the improvements they’ve
made.”
Sellers and colleague Wolf Henzler
report that they are eager to return to
Team Falken for this year’s racing
season.
February tests at Sebring International
Raceway are rapidly approaching, and the
crew has limited time to prepare the car
for its Sebring runs.
Falken completed last year’s racing
schedule on a high note, according to
the duo, finishing fourth in the GT Team
Championship and fifth in the GT
Drivers’ Championship. This season will
be the third year of competition for the
company’s American LeMans Series
staff.
Falken, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber
Industries, launched its line in Japan
in 1983, arriving in North America two
years later. It has since developed a
focus on ultra-high performance tires
while utilizing professional racing to
further enhance and improve passenger
car tires for worldwide
distribution.
The company says future developments
include expanding within in the premium
performance market.
