Viewers can anticipate something bold and brash
as Madonna headlines the Bridgestone Super Bowl
XLVI Halftime Show in Indianapolis on Feb. 5. She
will be joined onstage by Jamie King and a Cirque
Du Soleil ensemble.
The National Football League and NBC announced
the signings during the Dec. 4 Sunday Night
Football game between the New Orleans Saints and
Detroit Lions.
The Super Bowl’s halftime show is the most-
watched musical event of the year. More than 162
million viewers in the U.S. saw last year’s
show.
Madonna joins a list of Bridgestone-sponsored
halftime acts that include the Black Eyed Peas,
The Who, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band,
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the
Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2.
A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Madonna has
sold more than 300 million records in the course
of her three-decade career as the “Material
Girl.”
She is currently in the recording studio working
on a new album scheduled to be released next
year. Madonna’s new film, entitled “W.E.,” which
she directed, wrote and produced, is opening for
a limited one-week release on Dec. 9 in Los
Angeles. It will screen nationally on Feb. 3, two
days prior to the Super Bowl.
This season marks the fifth time Bridgestone has
sponsored the game’s halftime show. In addition,
the tire maker’s new marketing campaign, called
“Time to Perform,” will make its debut during the
broadcast.
