A series of four-day Certified Automotive Tire Service (ATS) Instructor classes will be conducted nationwide throughout 2012 by the Tire Industry Association (TIA).

The ATS Instructor Tour will visit 28 cities across U.S., with classes being held at local community and technical colleges near major metropolitan areas.

Providing in-depth and comprehensive hands-on instruction on the recommended procedures for servicing tires and wheels on cars and light trucks, the program is designed for the tire service professional with subjects ranging from proper lug nut torque procedures and puncture repair guidelines to the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) relearn and diagnostic procedures for domestic and import vehicles.

Retailers can take advantage of TIA’s “train-the- trainer” offerings by investing in the education of a key employee who can return to the dealership as a TIA Certified Instructor to train the technicians, according to TIA President Larry Brandt.

“We are incredibly proud of the new ATS training and certification program, so it was an easy decision to embark on a national tour,” he says.

“This unprecedented commitment to educating the industry is just another reason why TIA is the recognized leader in technician training and certification,” Brandt notes.

TIA plans to release the specific dates and locations for the February to December classes by the end of this year, but the dates may change depending on availability.

“We’ve barely scratched the surface with the Certified ATS Program, so we expect the tour to provide us with the type of growth that we need to continue our mission,” says Kevin Rohlwing, TIA’s senior vice president of training.

“Nobody should be servicing passenger and light truck tires without proper training,” he points out. “By conducting a series of Certified Instructor classes around the country, we can significantly increase the number of qualified technicians and help improve the image of our industry.”
