Bridgestone's Tires Plus has been named Partner of the Year by the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF). The chain's vice president of sales and marketing, Jeremy Persinger, was selected as Volunteer of the Year for leading the company's various efforts in supporting the charity.

“I’m honored to be named the Volunteer of the Year by the PCF,” says Persinger. “On behalf of all of us at Tires Plus, we are so proud to join the PCF in its efforts against what is truly a horrific disease affecting children nationwide.”

“Jeremy is incredibly humble, but he has truly spearheaded much of our involvement with this worthy organization. We are so proud that our company and one of our own were recognized with these volunteer awards,” observes Stu Watterson, president and CEO of Morgan Tire & Auto, which operates the stores as part of Bridgestone’s business network.

“At Tires Plus, our teammates not only care about our customers’ vehicles, but also about the communities that we call home,” Watterson continues. “This terrible disease has affected so many children and families, and as active members of our communities, we are committed to the fight against childhood cancer. We are truly honored to receive the Partner of the Year award.”

In addition to supporting the Grand Slam Celebrity Fishing Tournament, the company teamed up with Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays to donate $100 for each home run hit during the team’s entire season. In total, Tires Plus donated $20,000 to the PCF.

A recent in-store promotion allowed drivers to help support the PCF’s mission: By accepting a $1 upgrade on oil change services, drivers who visited participating Tires Plus and Wheel Works stores donated more than $36,000 to the PCF; this amount also included donations by Tires Plus and Wheel Works employees.

Tires Plus is also sponsoring Heel to Heal, a 5-kilometer fun run and 1-mile walk on Nov. 20 at Hyde Park Village in Tampa, Fla.

More than 160,000 children worldwide are diagnosed with cancer each year. The PCF is working to fast-track a cure for pediatric cancer through a research initiative called The Sunshine Project. This effort has assembled doctors and researchers from the country’s leading hospitals. As a result, the Pediatric Cancer Foundation has launched two clinical trials at 10 hospitals in just three years.
