Continental's ProContact with EcoPlus Technology tire has been awarded "Best New Product" honors at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show for its innovative low-rolling resistance and fuel-saving features.

The all-season tire was developed to enhance driving pleasure, save money and surpass the competition, according to the company. It provides improved fuel efficiency, reduced CO2 emissions and an 80,000-mile limited treadwear warranty, without sacrificing wet braking performance.

“We’re very honored to be receiving this prestigious award,” says Bill Caldwell, vice president of sales and marketing. “The ProContact with EcoPlus Technology tire is a cut above the rest,” he adds.

“Our engineers have specifically designed it to not only save our customers money, but to also reduce CO2 emissions – which is something that is very important to Continental Tire as a company. This tire is a reflection of our focus and commitment to environmental responsibility,” Caldwell explains.

He notes that the winning tire “is built to deliver excellent wet traction and remarkable treadwear, and it has been proven to deliver more controlled braking and significantly shorter stopping distances in wet conditions.”

EcoPlus Technology consists of two main components: Tg-F Polymers and +Saline.

The Tg-F polymers are temperature-activated, functional polymers that increase compound-bonding, improving the wear and fuel efficiency of the tire, according to Caldwell.

The second component, +Silane, is an additive that works to enhance the tire’s grip on slippery roads, drastically reducing stopping distances, he says. “These technologies work together to enhance the driving experience for a long tire life when conditions are normal, and they provide excellent wet braking on slippery roads.”
