Robby Gordon and navigator Andy Grider have piloted their No. 302 Monster Energy/Toyo Tires Hummer H3 racer to claim a Stage 4 win in the 2010 Dakar Rally.
Competing on 35X12.50R17 Toyo Open Country M/T-R tires, Gordon and Grider won by a margin of just one second during the 101-mile Atacama Desert portion – posting a time of 1:40.21.
Running from Fiambalá, Argentina to Copiapó, Chile, this particular leg was shortened by the organizers from an originally planned longer route because of heavy damage inflicted on all of the competitors’ vehicles during Stage 3. The course alteration allowed more time for the racing teams to repair their vehicles.
“Gordon has again demonstrated he can win in the toughest conditions, in the most difficult race on earth, on Toyo Open Country M/T-R tires,” says Steve Hutchinson, vice president of marketing.
In 2009, Gordon and Grider finished third overall in the Dakar with their Toyo-equipped Hummer H3. They were the only two-wheel drive vehicle to finish in the top 10.
