Bridgestone’s Dueler HP Sport Run-Flat tires will be factory fitted on BMW’s new X5 M and X6 M models.

“The ultimate in performance, premium technology and a passion for excellence make the Bridgestone brand and BMW a winning combination,” says Mike Martini, president of Bridgestone’s U.S. and Canada original equipment consumer tire sales division.

“Selecting the Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport Run-Flat for this high profile vehicle is a clear victory for the brand and for the driving enthusiast. Now, with the new BMW M automobile fitment, every class of vehicle manufactured by BMW is riding on a Bridgestone-brand tire, and the majority of those are our run-flat tires,” Martini points out, adding that the company remains the No. 1 OE run-flat tire supplier for BMW’s fleet.

The Bridgestone plant in Tosu, Japan will be supplying the tires for the 2009 X5 M and X6 M, which are both produced at BMW’s factory in Spartanburg, S.C.

The fitments are:

Front: 275/40R20 106Y (Extra Load) Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport RFT.

Rear: 315/35R20 110Y (Extra Load) Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport RFT.

Bridgestone’s run-flat tires are based on the company’s proprietary Self Supporting Run-Flat tire (SSR) system. It uses a special rubber sidewall reinforcement to carry the weight of the vehicle when the tire is deflated. When a run-flat tire loses air, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) notifies the driver. In the event of a sudden loss of air pressure, run-flat tires “offer drivers great peace of mind and the ability to travel up to 50 miles at 50 mph to a safe location if a tire change is necessary,” says Martini
