Defending 2007 Formula Drift champion Tanner Foust is again leading in points for the 2008 championship season by winning last Saturday’s “Locked and Loaded” event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
Foust, who won last season’s top honors, credits the R1R Toyos for high track speeds coupled with a high level of control. A third-place finish earlier this year at the Long Beach season opener suggested that he was on-track to continue his championship-winning pace for 2008.
During Round 3 in Englishtown, N.J., Foust scored his first victory of this season, placing him in the championship lead. He dropped to second in the standings during a later race, but went on to prove once again why he is the defending Formula Drift champion with the Sonoma victory, according to Stan Chen, Toyo’s manager of events and motorsports.
“We are thrilled to see Tanner win at Sonoma and to resume the championship points-lead with only one race to go,” says Chen. “Tanner is once again proving the winning capability of our off-the-shelf Proxes R1R tire.”
The 140-UTQG rated R1R is ideal for aggressive street driving, he continues, and it has won in competition from the 2007 Formula Drift and D1 GP championships to the street touring category of SCCA autocross and the street classes at time attacks. The tire fits 15- through 18-inch wheels and delivers maximum dry weather traction with an aggressive appearance for the enthusiast driver, Chen says.
