Nov. 7, 2012—David Eckert, designer of a 1969 Ford Mach 40, won the “Best of Show” award at Sony Computer Entertainment America’s 10th annual Gran Turismo Awards, which were presented during the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
Sony’s Gran Turismo Awards give vehicle exhibitors at the SEMA Show an opportunity to have their car featured in the company’s Gran Turismo video game for the PlayStation. The awards are judged based on vehicle performance, style and speed.
As winner of the “Best of Show” award, Eckert’s 1969 Ford Mach 40 will be added as a featured vehicle in the next edition of the Gran Turismo game, which has sold more than 65 million units worldwide. Eckert’s vehicle was painted with Valspar’s De Beer refinish brand, and showcased in the Valspar exhibitor booth at SEMA.
“For the past ten years, the Gran Turismo Awards has recognized and rewarded automotive enthusiasts who demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for video games, and amazing car design and performance,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the Gran Turismo franchise and president of Polyphony Digital. “We continue to be blown away by the quality of the vehicles that are submitted and are excited to add 1969 Ford Mach 40 to our list of distinguished winners and to the Gran Turismo franchise.”
