A student in Carson City, Nevada found his passion for automotive repair after realizing how valuable of a skill it can be, the Nevada Appeal reports.
Jose Fausto Hernandez had enrolled as a student in Western Nevada College’s (WNC) Construction Management program in Fall 2021, but something happened to him that caused his career path to change.
When the window regulator on Fausto Hernandez’s Chevrolet Impala stopped working, he took it to a repair shop and received an estimate of $300 to repair the issue. Fausto Hernandez decided he would take a shot at remedying the issue himself.
That he did, saving himself more than 33% in costs as a result. Following the success of the job, Fausto Hernandez realized the passion he had for auto repair and transferred to WNC’s Automotive Mechanics Technology program in Spring of 2022.
Since then, Fausto Hernandez has become immersed in the world of auto repair, eagerly taking in all the insight and experience he can. This enthusiasm led him to a position with Michael Hohl Honda, where he will receive additional training to gain certifications.
When things are slow at work, Fausto Hernandez still finds opportunities to grow in his trade, asking fellow technicians about repair projects and how to run tests to identify problems.
Fausto Hernandez is now preparing himself to test for ASE certifications offered through WNC before he graduates in the Spring.
