California’s Correctional Training Facility (CTF) recently completed a remodel of its auto body shop for its Vocational Auto Body Program, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The CTF Education Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening of the program, which experienced a hiatus for about a year while the remodel was being completed. Those present at the ceremony included the Division of Rehabilitative Programs and the Division of Career and Technical Education Programs.
The Vocational Auto Body Program lasts 18 months. There are currently 27 individuals enrolled who will “receive certifications in collision repair, paint color analysis and body repair and painting” upon completion of the program.
The remodel hopes to help students have a better training environment with the installation of a new auto paint booth, auto body aligner and paint mixing room.
Vice Principal of Vocations David Mena said that the remodel and certifications will offer “the ability to acquire a job with a livable wage upon release from prison.”
