According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, a little over a third of Americans would consider purchasing an EV for their next vehicle, Reuters reports.
The results show that 34% of all surveyed would consider switching to an EV, with 31% saying they would not. 50% of Democrats replied that they would consider an EV, with 26% of Republicans and 27% of independents also willing to consider the switch.
The poll also found that 56% of those surveyed would not be willing to pay more than $49,999 for an EV, though the average EV for sale does not fall below that, as Reuters points out: “EVs are still often significantly above $50,000.”
35% of respondents also shared that they want an EV “that offered 500 or more miles of electric driving range per full charge,” which most EVs currently do not. An additional 37% desired “a minimum of 300 miles.”
The poll was conducted over the course of seven days online, surveying 4,410 people across the country. The poll has “a credibility interval of about 2 to 3 percentage points in either direction.”
