Aug. 1, 2019—Former Audi CEO Rupert Stadler has been charged by German prosecutors over his alleged role in the Volkswagen Dieselgate scandal, according to The Verge.
He was charged with three other defendants who were not named. Stadler is accused of helping the automaker cheat emissions tests to make Audi’s cars appear cleaner than they really were.
The European Commission has also accused Volkswagen Group of colluding with BMW and Daimler of slowing the rollout of better emissions restriction technology.
Prosecutors arrested Sadler last year and held him for four months in pretrial detention for allegedly trying to obstruct their investigation.
