Multiple OEMs Experience Aug. SUV Sales Surge

In August, SUVs continued to gain in popularity with U.S. consumers, and, in that regard, a handful of automakers especially enjoyed a sales bump.

Sept. 6, 2018—In August, SUVs continued to gain in popularity with U.S. consumers, and, in that regard, a handful of automakers especially enjoyed a sales bump.

As noted by USA Today, sales of the Toyota Highlander were up 23.6 percent last month, with 23,300 units sold. The Porsche Macan was up 28.4 percent in August, the Audi Q5 was up 42.9 percent, and sales of the Honda Pilot were up 60.2 percent.

As impressive as those numbers were, they all pale in comparison to the spike Volkswagen experienced with its Tiguan SUV, which sold 8,557 units in August, representing a massive, 143 percent increase in sales.
