Pete Meier has been named the new technical editor for
Motor Age magazine. Meier, who works as an automotive technician at a repair shop in Clearwater, Fla., previously had been a contributing editor for the publication.
“Pete’s experience spans more than 30 years in the trenches repairing a wide variety of vehicles. He writes from his own practical experience and in a manner that fellow technicians can easily understand,” says Larry Silvey, group editorial director for Advanstar Automotive. “We are proud to have someone on our editorial team who continues to turn the wrenches on a daily basis.”Â
Meier is an ASE Certified Master Auto Technician, a sponsoring member of International Automotive Technicians' Network (IATN), and a trained vocational instructor. He is certified by both the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools and the Polk County, Florida school system. He was named the CARQUEST/Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) “AC Technician of the Year” for 2006, and now works with MACS as a regional trainer.Â
After experiencing an EVAP code problem while fixing a Lexus in 2004, Meier chronicled his experience in solving the problem. On a whim, he submitted an article about his experience to some of the industry trade magazines. The article was published, launching his automotive technical writing career. Shortly after that he started writing for Motor Age’s “Garage” story segment.
“I’ve always been a fan of Motor Age,” Meier adds. “I always loved their technical pieces and was able to learn something. One pledge I make to our readers, no matter how involved I become with the magazine editorially, I will always keep my hands dirty as long as I am physically able. That is the only way to keep in touch with what it takes to make a living doing what we do.”
Meier says he is excited for the opportunity to be more involved with the magazine’s technical content. “This new position with the magazine gives me the chance to carry that pledge to all of our technical features, and make Motor Age the choice for professional technicians.”
In addition to writing for Motor Age, Meier has authored a self-published book, "Automotive Driveability: A Guide To Engine Performance Diagnosis." Meier says the book was written for technicians new to driveability repairs, and those who aren’t as comfortable with diagnostic techniques as they would like to be.Â
