2005 Infiniti G35 Sedan

Introduced in 2003, the G35 was face-lifted in 2005 and there were some mechanical changes. The earlier car's Brembo brake calipers were dropped in favor of standard Nissan single-piston calipers. All-Wheel-Drive became available in 2004, so pay attention to axle nut torque specs. On all models, the anti-lock brake system uses two-wire active wheel speed sensors, which means there's a reference voltage on the sensor circuits. There are special tools available for testing these sensors on any car.

Variations of the VQ35 engine have been used in many Nissan models, including the 350Z. The timing chain also drives the water pump, and valve adjustment is accomplished by replacing the lifters. On all Nissan engines with variable valve timing, using the wrong motor oil can turn on the MIL and set the following codes: P0011, P0014, P0021, P0024, P1110 and P1135.

Service bulletins were issued for MIL illumination and air/fuel sensor faults (ITB04-027a and ITB04-059), MIL illumination with "U" codes (ITB06-004a) and special instructions for servicing the air flow meter (ITB05-051).

Another bulletin was issued to address no-crank after a cold soak in temperatures below 10 degrees Fahrenheit: When running the engine for only a few minutes, for instance, just to move the car, the engine may fail to crank next time. The problem has been traced to a faulty Intelligent Power Distribution Module, which takes the place of the underhood fuse block/relay panel.

The G35 is built on the same platform as the Nissan 350Z, and it is most definitely a driver's car. It may be wise to use the Severe Service maintenance schedule that calls for more frequent oil changes.
