I-CAR and the General Motors Corvette team will offer a 3.5-day hands-on Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 training course beginning September 13 and running through September 30, with additional dates being added in October and November. The training will be held at the I-CAR Tech Centre in Appleton, Wis.

Jason Bartanen, I-CAR Technical Director said, “Vehicle makers are continually looking for ways to lighten vehicle structures and there is a strong likelihood that the industry will see more aluminum-intensive vehicles. The I-CAR Corvette ZR1 course offers a tremendous opportunity for repairers to receive a premier training experience, as well as earn credit toward the I-CAR Platinum Individual® designation.”

This unique opportunity will provide individuals with the same world class training that Corvette ZR1 certified collision repair technicians receive and is open to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis. The Corvette ZR1 training will allow individuals to enhance their knowledge and skills in aluminum vehicle repair through performing hands-on welding and riveting repairs on Corvette ZR1 space frames. Individuals will also be able to perform sectioning activities, following General Motors repair procedures. A recent student from the Corvette ZR1 course stated, “When I started the class, I knew nothing about aluminum welding. I now know how to confidently weld aluminum and section frames. This is one of the most informative courses that I have ever attended,” the student continued, “With the hands-on training and excellent guidance from the instructors, I would not have a second thought about sectioning or replacing a frame rail on a Corvette.”

Following successful completion of the I-CAR Corvette ZR1 training, individuals will meet the requirements for the 2011 I-CAR® ProLevel™ 1 Aluminum Structural Technician role, as defined in the I-CAR® Professional Development Program™, and be recognized with the I-CAR Platinum Individual® designation.
