A new line of low-VOC PPG and Nexa Autocolor clears, primers
and sealers has received approval in North America for use
on Ford cars and trucks. The approval is on a global basis
and directed toward warranty repairs of Ford vehicles. The
PPG and Nexa Autocolor products have all been produced
specifically for use with PPG’s Envirobase® High Performance
or Nexa Autocolor Aquabase® Plus waterborne basecoats which
have already been approved for use by Ford. The new products
were all extensively tested and evaluated by Ford to make
certain they could meet the standards of quality the vehicle
manufacturer demanded.
“Once again PPG has provided us with the consistently high
product quality we expect from them in all their products,”
said Gerry Bonanni, Ford senior engineer, paint and body
repair. “These new, ecologically sensitive, low-VOC coatings
will make a welcome addition to the already long list of PPG
products we have approved.”
The approvals cover several product lines including PPG’s
EC700 series clears, ECP10 series primers and ECS20/ECS60
series sealers. Also approved are Nexa Autocolor P190-
6759/6790 clears, P565-314x/312x sealers, and P565-540x
primers. Intended as “one-visit clears,” EC700 series and
Nexa Autocolor P190-6759/6790 eliminate the long flash times
between coats, reducing cycle time with no compromise on the
quality and appearance required by high-production shops. In
addition, Ford approved PPG’s D8113 matte clearcoat which
has flattening properties built into the clear to further
support a growing trend in the OEM market.
