April 4, 2011 — General Motors sold more Chevrolet Volts in March than in January and February combined, according to the manufacturer's latest sales report.
Volt sales hit 608 units in March, adding to 281 sold in February and 321 that found buyers in January, for a sales total of 1,210 cars. It’s a tiny number compared to sales of some other GM models, such as the Cruze, which hit 18,018 units in March. But it’s significant given the Volt’s low numbers during the past couple of months.
GM plans to make the Volt available nationwide by the end of the year; deliveries started in select markets in California, Texas and on the East Coast.
The Volt and GM’s other new vehicles—the Chevy Cruze, Equinox, Silverado HD; Buick LaCrosse and Regal; GMC Sierra HD and Terrain; and Cadillac SRX, CTS Wagon and CTS Coupe—posted the biggest March sales gains with a combined 54 percent jump.
“March sales demonstrated our newest models continue to win over customers," said Don Johnson, GM’s vice president of U.S. sales operations. “Vehicles like the Chevrolet Cruze and Equinox put us in great position to benefit from consumer's increasing desire for fuel-efficient vehicles.”
Overall, GM’s March sales increased 11 percent and the company saw a 38 percent increase in retail sales through the first quarter. Click here for the full report.
