Michelin is introducing two new commercial tires
for rugged on/off road applications.
The X Works XDY truck tire is designed for
exceptional traction and wear in on/off road
use, while the XDY-EX2 is the company’s most
aggressive drive axle tire for extreme operating
conditions such as logging, oil fields and
mining, according to Ted Becker, vice president
of marketing.
“For today’s construction and on/off road
fleets, it’s all about operational efficiency,”
says Becker. “Traction and overall tire
protection are paramount to maintaining
uptime.”
Both offerings have “maximum sidewall protection
with aggressive tread designs that deliver
exceptional traction and durability,” he
notes.
The X Works XDY provides enhanced durability due
to a more robust tread design, delivering a 10
percent mileage improvement when compared with
the company’s XDY3 tire, says Becker.
“Uptime is maximized with the directional tread
design, improving the efficiency of mud
evacuation to provide greater levels of
traction,” he explains. “Maximum tread and
casing life is achieved with Co-Ex Technology,
which combines a top tread layer of chip and
tear resistant compounds with a cool base tread
layer to preserve the casing.”
The tire has extra-thick sidewall protection to
guard against shocks, snags, impacts or other
damage, and it is available in two sizes:
11R22.5 and 11R24.5.
“The XDY-EX2 tire improves on the last-
generation XDY-EX tire, offering better off-road
and mud traction from an aggressive tread design
with more void area,” Becker continues.
“Maximum tread and casing life is once again
obtained due to Co-Ex Technology,” he adds.
“With extra-thick sidewalls, the XDY-EX2 tire
provides considerable protection from the
shocks, snags and impacts typically associated
with severe service.” It comes in size
11R24.5.
