Titan has formed a new unit called Titan Mining Services to provide complete tire, wheel and track care for industry end-users; the first location will be in Fort MacKay, Alberta, Canada.

The specialty tire maker chose the northern oil sands to begin the project because of the great amount of mining equipment used in the region, according to Chairman and CEO Maurice Taylor Jr. The company is partnering with Saskatoon Wholesale Tire, Ltd., which has been in the area for a number of years.

Titan has been approached by a number of mines requesting these types of services, he reports, and plans are afoot to rapidly grow the unit on a global scale.

“As we expand, Titan will be working with local businesses in all areas of the world,” says Taylor.

“Titan is the only company worldwide who has the engineering expertise on wheels, tires and track components,” he adds, “and we will be training many new technicians.”

A chief executive to head the division will be soon be announced; in the meantime it will be operating out of the corporate offices in Quincy, Ill.
