Team Toyo pilot Matthew Glagola and his 2000 Honda S2000 powered to a win in the new STR (Street Touring R) class during the recent SCCA Texas National Tour event at Mineral Wells, Texas.
On stop No. 2 of the SCCA Solo National Tour, Glagola won by more than three seconds while racing on Proxes R1R extreme performance tires. R1R-shod cars captured the top four places in the ten-car class.
“The longitudinal grip and a high tolerance for a wide slip angle for the Proxes R1R worked well for putting power down on corner exit,” says Glagola. “Without needing to get up to temperature in the coldish weather, the tires felt as good on their first run as they did the last run, which gave me the confidence to attack the course right out of the box.”
R1R equipped racers also made the podium in the STS (Street Touring S) and STS-Ladies classes, where Team Toyo’s Michelle Seelig finished second in her 1989 Honda CRX.
“These results speak for themselves,” says Stan Chen, Toyo’s manager of motorsports and events, “demonstrating that the Proxes R1R is the tire to beat in the Street Touring classes, no matter what type of car you race.”
