Toyo’s two recently introduced 20-inch Proxes R888s are the first R-compound tires destined to adorn the new Nissan GT-R.
Billed as a “Japanese supercar” boasting 485 all-wheel-drive horsepower, the limited-production Nissan is “the ideal car for high-performance driving schools, track days and timed competition,” according to Robert Waytashek, Toyo’s consumer products manager.
“With the incredible potential offered by the Nissan GT-R, Toyo Tires felt it was a natural fit to develop R-compound sizes specific to this vehicle,” Waytashek says.
The 285/35ZR20 (100Y) front and 315/30ZR20 (101Y) rear fitments are now available to tire retailers in the U.S.
“With our extensive testing on this car, we found the GT-R achieves a new level of on-track performance thanks to the installation of Proxes R888 tires,” reports Waytashek.
“The Proxes R888 competition tire further enhances the track capabilities of this supercar with features such as a continuous center contact for excellent directional control during hard braking,” he says.
“A unidirectional, 6/32nd-inch tread pattern with v-shaped grooves enhances wet traction and control, while a semi-slick shoulder area helps to increase cornering force,” Waytashek adds. “The Official Tire of Speed World Challenge, the Proxes R888 can also be shaved for maximum dry-weather performance on race day,” he points out.
