Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. has increased promotional efforts for its Proxes R1R extreme performance tire by raising the company’s contingency prize-money sponsorship of the 2008 SCCA Solo National Tourto $400, $300 and $200 for racers finishing in the first through third, spots. Award funds for national championship have also been significantly enhanced.
“Drivers throughout the racing community are finding themselves atop the podium with a set of our Proxes R1R tires on their car,” says Steve Hutchinson, senior director of marketing. “These expanded marketing efforts will encourage even more drivers to take the Proxes R1R for a lap and experience the winning-performance of Toyo,” he explains.
The Proxes R1R is a 140 UTQG-rated extreme performance tire, which is ideal for the street touring category of SCCA autocross, street classes at time attacks, drifting, track days and aggressive street driving, according to Hutchinson. Already in 2008, the tire has chalked up wins at SCCA Solo National Tour events including two by STS class points-leader Andy Hollis in Fort Worth, Texas.
In 2007, the tire won both the Formula Drift and D1 drifting championships.
Hutchinson says the tire’s “dynamic arrowhead tread pattern delivers excellent water drainage and wet performance. Its wide footprint delivers maximum dry weather traction and an aggressive appearance for the enthusiast driver. Further attributes include a rapid steering response and high-speed stability.”
