Smoke could be seen briefly from at least half-a-mile around during a fire at an auto body shop in an industrial area just north of Yout Street in Racine, Wis., after 6 p.m on Sept. 23, according to The Journal Times (stock image, above, is not of this location.)
The report states no injuries were reported, and no employees were at the shop when the fire broke out.
"The cause of the fire is determined to be an unattended burn barrel that overwhelmed the barrel and ignited nearby combustibles and spread to the structure," the Racine Fire Department told The Journal Times. "The fire is deemed to be accidental."
According to the newspaper, the RFD reported that fire burned the rear wall of the structure, and the insulation on the wall burned and caused damage to some equipment in the rear of the structure. Over 20 firefighters responded, with Engine 2 arriving first and being "able to knock down the bulk of the fire." The estimated damage from the fire is $25,000, with $20,000 in damage to the structure and $5,000 to its contents.
