AAIA congratulates Sens. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J. and David Vitter, R-La., on introducing S. 1009, the Chemical Safety Improvement Act (CSIA) on May 22.
The Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) congratulates Senators Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J. and David Vitter, R-La., along with a growing list of Senate colleagues, on introducing S. 1009, the Chemical Safety Improvement Act (CSIA) on May 22. The legislation will update and streamline the review and safety classification process for the more than 84,000 chemicals in the current system, the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). “TSCA has been in place for more than 37 years, making it the only major federal program yet to be reformed,’ said Aaron Lowe, AAIA vice president, government affairs. “The CSIA is needed to bring the capabilities of a national chemical safety program in line with the advances in current science.” “The bill’s intention of modernizing the program for chemical safety, administered by the Environmental Protection Agency, is a strong step forward for both advancing public health and safety while allowing businesses to innovate and maintain strategic competitive advantages. The automotive aftermarket looks forward to working with senators from both sides of the aisle to create a new program that protects consumers and does not unduly burden businesses,” Lowe said.
