On Wednesday, February 19, 2020, a deserving Modesto family experienced a life-changing event – the presentation of a vehicle to provide them independence and the ability to work and take care of their family – thanks to the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides® program along with car donor Allstate Insurance and vehicle repairer CARSTAR the Professionals Auto Body Works in Modesto, Calif.
The presentation was held at the CARSTAR the Professionals Auto Body Works in Modesto. The deserving recipients were selected by Family Promise of Greater Modesto.
The recipient was Erika and her four children (ages range from 1 to 13), who moved to Modesto to care for an ailing family member in exchange for housing. When that housing arrangement ended, even though Erika started work for a property management company, the family found themselves facing homelessness. Working hard to keep their family together with a goal of independence, they found Family Promise of Greater Modesto. Family Promise provided shelter and resources while Erika continued to work. The family has found housing and continues to work on their goals. Lack of reliable transportation for work and school has been a struggle for the family. The gift of a vehicle will fill a critical need and empower this family to maintain their employment, housing and work toward their future goals.
Allstate Insurance donated the vehicle and technicians at CARSTAR The Professionals Auto Body Works in Modesto volunteered personal time to restore the vehicle to nearly new condition to help the family get back on the road to regain independence and freedom.
