California DOI Appoints Legislative Director

March 11, 2013—The California Department of Insurance (DOI) has named Robert Herrell as deputy commissioner and legislative director.

Herrell has worked in a number of public policy positions, and served as chief consultant and senior consultant to the Assembly on Consumer Protection, Governmental Efficiency and Economic Development Committee under former assemblywoman Susan Davis. As chief consultant, Herrell worked on a wide variety of consumer protection and economic development issues.

Herrell also worked as legislative director during his tenure with the California State Assembly from 2007 to 2008.

"I am extremely confident in Robert's ability to advance our mission of insurance protection for all Californians into the legislative arena," said California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. "I look forward to leveraging his considerable experience as we continue to ensure consumers are protected and their insurance needs are addressed."
