Oct. 21, 2019—A Tesla owner in Montana says the Autopilot feature helped the car stop on its own when it detected a bear and her cubs on the road, per a report by Electrek. The whole incident was captured by Tesla’s integrated dashcam feature.

The Autopilot feature sensed the family of bears in the dark, while the car was traveling at 50 mph. Tesla Autopilot has reportedly been increasingly improving with over-the-air software updates.
In this case, it’s unclear if the Autopilot simply slowed down because of usual traffic-aware cruise control, even though the traffic consisted of a bunch of animals, or if it detected an obstacle and activated automatic emergency braking (AEB), according to the report.
