Feb. 19, 2019—General Motors said on Monday it will invest $36 million in its Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan for future crossover production, reported The Detroit Free PressThe plant builds the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave SUVs.

The investment comes as GM is idling five of its other factories in North America this year, affecting 6,200 jobs, as part of a restructuring plan that included eliminating a total of 8,000 white-collar jobs, through buyouts, contractor cuts and involuntary layoffs.

Lansing Delta Township features GM's newest plant. It opened in May 2006. It runs two production shifts and employs 2,600 people.
