July 16, 2018—Purdue University is launching an autonomous vehicle innovation hub where students and faculty will research issues related to the technology, reported Indianapolis Business Journal.
The new center, Innovation Hub for Connected and Autonomous Transportation Technologies, will be part of Purdue's Discovery Park, according to the report. The park is a 40-acre complex for the school's STEM undergraduate students, graduate-level researchers and faculty.
The research will be done in partnership with government agencies like the Indiana Department of Transportation, reported Indianapolis Business Journal. The focus will be on commercial uses for autonomous vehicles but will also focus on the public policies and perceptions about them.
Purdue researchers want to go further into autonomous airplane technology and energy-efficient freight transportation.
