Philadelphia Body Shop Sued by Local Residents
An auto body shop in Philadelphia is being sued by residents who claim the shop has filled the neighborhood with trash, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Residents have filed 311 complaints over the years regarding White's Autobody and the shop has been issued 58 notices of violations from the Department of Licenses and Inspections.
The shop has been allegedly tossing aside car parts and trash in residents’ backyards and a shared alleyway. They have also been accused of “leaving broken-down cars in residential parking spaces” and releasing chemical odors. Residents have also complained of loud parties being held at night in the shop.
Marceline Dix is one resident affected by White’s Autobody. Her home sits directly in front of the shop in a strip of row houses.
Dix, along with other residents, has filed a civil lawsuit against the shop, including its current and past owners.
“Fundamentally this case is about a kind of neighboring property, in this case, an autobody business or businesses, that takes our clients’ ability to be in their backyard, to open their windows, to live in an area that is clean of debris and trash, even having some trash thrown in their yards,” said Sari Bernstein, a Public Interest Law Center attorney representing the residents.
