Coinciding with the kickoff of this year’s football season, Yokohama Tire Corp. is already in the red zone and prepared to score with a series of gridiron-related marketing initiatives.

The company is offering a variety of dealer and consumer promotions throughout the professional and college schedules in conjunction with the National Football League’s Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns, as well as two high-visibility college teams; the University of California-Los Angeles Bruins and University of Southern California Trojans.

The first pigskin promotion, the “Home Team Pride” jersey campaign, began last week and runs through Oct. 15.

“America loves its football, both on the college and pro level,” says Dan King, Yokohama’s vice president of sales.

“All the promotions, including the Home Team Pride jersey campaign, will be a big hit with our dealers and their customers,” he contends. “That’s why we’re once again sponsoring teams to help highlight our lineup of tires, including ADVAN, S.drive, PARADA, Geolandar and AVID.”

The Home Team Pride promotion involves a jersey giveaway where dealers in the specific markets offer free, official replica team jerseys to every customer who buys any four Yokohama tires. The company will also have signage, product displays and events at the stadiums, plus radio and television spots, presence on the teams’ Internet sites and newsletters, plus other corporate identifications.

The football promotions follow Yokohama marketing ventures with three National Basketball Association teams (the defending champion Boston Celtics, the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors), along with two Triple-A minor league baseball teams; the Scranton Yankees and Memphis Redbirds.

The company has a network of more than 4,500 sales points in the U.S.
