In August, more than 40 Dallas-area technicians learned more about motor oil when they attended another stop on the Motor Oil Matters Tour.
The tour, which was attended by technicians who use Shell Lubricans, featured an address from Kevin Ferrick of the American Petroleum Institue. Ferrick, manager for engine oil licensing at API, joined the AOCA’s Dave Saddler, Car and Driver Radio host Alan Taylor and Shell Lubricants Growth Manager Elizabeth Boehm-Miller in addressing installers in Dallas to introduce the Motor Oil Matters trade and consumer programs.
The tour also highlighted www.motoroilmatters.org and the Installer Product Quality program. Motor Oil Matters aims to differentiate quality branded motor oils from off-brand lubricants that may not meet the most current industry specifications, according to Shell. The next customer event is planned in the New York metro market in early September.
“The American Petroleum Institute applauds the Motor Oil Matters initiative,” says Ferrick. “Consumers need to pay attention when they purchase motor oil for their gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles — asking by name for a quality product that meets or exceeds the API's Engine Oil Quality standards and bears the API Service Symbol ‘Donut’ and Certification Mark ‘Starburst’.”
