A solar power installation at the Big O Tires outlet in Dublin, Calif. is generating 75 percent of the facility’s electrical demands.

“Since the system has come on line in early March, we expect to handle most of our power needs with solar energy,” says Bruce Cherry, who has operated the franchise for 29 years.

“We’re very glad to be part of this project, which demonstrates the benefits of both our technology and of Parallel Solar at commercial scale,” reports Oliver Janssen, CEO at eIQ Energy, which provided the 50-kilowatt system.

It is engineered to make solar energy more effective and affordable than existing applications currently on the market, he says.

“As our products move into the field, we’re seeing that they make a tangible difference in the viability of solar installations of all sizes,” Janssen observes.

In addition to facilitating operational and maintenance oversight for management personnel, the technology allows Big O’s customers to view real-time data related to the store’s sustainable energy production on a constantly updated computer monitor.

Also, Big O’s 33 outlets throughout Colorado’s Front Range region are conducting the Denver area’s “biggest tire event of the year” through May 16, according to spokeswoman Lori Sutorius Jones.

From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., customers are offered a “Buy 2 Tires Get 2 Free” promotion on select tire brands and styles, such as Sumitomo, Cooper and Falken. After 11 a.m., the deal switches to “Buy 3 Get 1 Free.”

To qualify for the free tire offer, purchasers must buy a package that includes installation, alignment and a nationwide warranty program.
