Oct. 5, 2015—The Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of New Jersey (AASP/NJ) has kicked off its 2015-16 schedule by hosting two meetings that covered the basics of repair on aluminum-intensive vehicles. The meetings, held Sept. 24 and 29 at Reliable Automotive Equipment Inc.(RAE) in Belford, N.J., saw repairers from all across the state attend.

The classes, presented by RAE owner Dave Gruskos, provided attendees with an education on the do’s and the don’ts of aluminum repair and what the future of advanced materials might hold.

“Some of the things I show you today might look new to you, but they will definitely be mainstream in the next few years,” Gruskos told to the crowd.

During the meetings, Gruskos covered the various types of rivets and rivet guns that are on the market, what to look for in a spot welder, and all of the safety equipment necessary to perform steel and aluminum repairs in the same shop.

After a slideshow and presentation on products and procedures, attendees were given the opportunity to watch some of the products in action.

“Since this was a members-only event, I am pleased that so many of our members are being proactive when it comes to new technology,” said Jeff McDowell, AASP/NJ president. “It’s our job to make this kind of education available to our membership.”
