Feb. 15, 2012—The Assured Performance Network (APN) on Tuesday launched a national body shop certification program.

APN said its certification initiative was developed to establish a distinction for shops that have the right tools, equipment, training and facilities to ensure the proper fit, finish, durability, safety and value of today's automobiles after a repair. APN’s goal is to certify at least 2,500 collision repair organizations across the United States, which will be called "Certified Collision Care Providers.”

APN said it is using a process to identify which shops are able to meet increasingly complex vehicle design and repair requirements. The organization’s certification standards are a culmination of multiple requirements from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and various repair organizations. The certification standards also eliminate redundant criteria already required by federal, state and local laws, and avoid repair re-inspection and expensive ongoing repair verification.

APN’s key certification requirements include:

• a written lifetime warranty that is supported by the national network
• use of a third-party customer service indexing (CSI) provider
• use of a 220-volt 3-phase Squeeze-type Resistance Spot Welder
• provide consumers with a "Certificate of Authenticity”
• obtain the I-CAR Gold Class designation
• use OEM repair procedures with electronic documentation as proof

"Consumers want to be able to pick a certified shop that will repair their vehicle right the first time," said Liz Stein, executive director of APN. "We are proud to bring this timely solution to the industry."

APN said it is providing its certification and third-party administration to other repair networks and organizations that want to recognize shops that are able to provide safe repairs and deliver an exceptional consumer experience. Using one certification process across multiple organizations, APN said, eliminates redundant costs, makes certification more affordable, and allows certified shops to be recognized and promoted by multiple entities to further enhance the shop's credibility.

"We have created a cost-effective approach to certification, and now qualified repairers can finally be recognized for their commitment and investment,” said Scott Biggs, CEO of APN.
